Cookie notice.

Which cookies and similar tools this website uses, what each one does, which ones wait for your permission, and how to change your mind.

UPDATED //

The short version.

Our own website code sets no cookies. The tools that aren’t essential wait until you choose Accept all in our cookie banner.

  • ALWAYS ON //Fathom’s cookie-free visitor counts (you can switch these off in Cookie settings), our fonts from Google Fonts, Google’s tag with its cookies switched off, your saved cookie choice, and a note of where you came from that’s kept for this browser tab only.
  • ACCEPT ALL //Also turns on Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Microsoft Clarity and Metricool.
  • ESSENTIAL ONLY //Nothing else loads and Google’s tag keeps its cookies switched off. The note of where you came from is deleted as well.

What cookies are.

Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies include your browser’s local storage and scripts that read information from your device or browser.

Under PECR, we need your consent for any of these that aren’t strictly necessary, apart from a few exceptions. One exception covers collecting statistics to improve a website, as long as you’re told about it and can object.

Our own website code doesn’t set any cookies. The cookies listed on this page are set by the third-party tools we use.

How we ask.

The first time you visit, a banner at the bottom of the screen asks for your choice. Until you choose, the tools that need your consent stay off.

Accept all loads Microsoft Clarity and Metricool, and lets Google’s tag use cookies for Google Analytics and Google Ads.

Essential only keeps all of that switched off, and it also deletes the note of where you came from (see What runs for everyone).

We remember your answer on your device, in your browser’s local storage, under the name nb-consent. It isn’t a cookie and it isn’t sent to us. It stays until you clear this site’s data in your browser. Our statistics tools count the choices people make, without identifying anyone.

  • BUTTONS //Accept all. Essential only.
  • SAVED AS //nb-consent, in your browser’s local storage

What runs for everyone.

These run on every page, whatever you choose. The one exception is the note of where you came from, which is deleted from your browser if you choose Essential only.

Fathom collects statistics without cookies. For Fathom we rely on our legitimate interests in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)), and under PECR on the exception for statistics collected to improve a website. You can object to it at any time: tick the Fathom box in Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.

For the note of where you came from, we rely on our legitimate interests in knowing which of our marketing brings in enquiries (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). It’s only sent to us if you send one of our forms.

  • YOUR CHOICE //Your answer to the cookie banner, saved in your browser’s local storage as nb-consent so we don’t ask on every page.
  • WHERE YOU CAME FROM //When you arrive, our own website code works out which website, search engine, AI assistant or campaign link sent you, if it can tell, and notes it with the first page you visited and any campaign tags in the link. It’s kept in your browser’s session storage under the name nb-src, for this browser tab only, so it goes when you close the tab. It isn’t a cookie, and it’s only sent to us as part of a form you choose to send. If you choose Essential only, it’s deleted and not kept again.
  • FATHOM //Counts visits and page views, plus clicks on our phone, email and WhatsApp links, form activity and cookie choices. It doesn’t use cookies or store anything on your device. To tell visitors apart, it creates a one-way scrambled code (a “hash”) from your IP address and browser details, using a random value that changes every day, so you can’t be recognised from one day to the next. Fathom Analytics (Conva Ventures Inc.), Canada.
  • GOOGLE TAG //Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads share one Google tag. It loads on every page with Google Consent Mode set to refuse storage, so until you choose Accept all it doesn’t set or read Google Analytics or Google Ads cookies. In this mode it can still send Google limited information without cookies, such as that a page was viewed or a form was sent.
  • GOOGLE FONTS //Our fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser sends your IP address and browser details to Google when a page opens.

What waits for your consent.

These tools aren’t essential to the website. Microsoft Clarity and Metricool only load after you choose Accept all, and Google Analytics and Google Ads only use cookies after that. The lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR regulation 6), and you can withdraw it at any time.

  • 01Google Analytics 4Counts visits and shows which pages people view, how they found the site, what device they use and their approximate location. It also records clicks on our email, phone and WhatsApp links and when a form is started, sent or fails to send, but never what you type or send. Cookies: _ga and _ga_9NX0CJ85CL, kept for 2 years. Google, USA.
  • 02Google AdsMeasures whether people who clicked one of our Google adverts went on to contact us. Cookies: _gcl_au on our site, plus _gcl_aw if you arrived by clicking one of our adverts, kept for 90 days. Google may also set cookies on its own domains, such as IDE, kept for 13 months in the UK. Google, USA.
  • 03Microsoft ClarityRecords how visitors use our pages (mouse movements, clicks, scrolling and the pages viewed) as session recordings and heatmaps, so we can find and fix problems. Cookies: _clck and _clsk on our site, and CLID, MUID, ANONCHK, MR and SM on Microsoft’s domains. Microsoft sets how long they last, and lists them in its Clarity cookie list. Microsoft, USA.
  • 04MetricoolCounts visits and page views. It doesn’t use cookies: it uses your IP address during the connection to work out your country, and Metricool says it doesn’t store the IP address. We still only load it if you accept. Metricool Software, S.L., Spain.

Booking calls, forms and other sites.

Some services only come into play when you use them.

  • CAL.COM //Our Book a call buttons link to Cal.com, an online booking service, and we don’t embed Cal.com on this site. When you press one, you’re on Cal.com’s own site.
  • WEB3FORMS //Our forms, including the Marketing MOT order form, only contact Web3Forms when you send one, and it sets no cookies on this site.
  • OTHER SITES //Links to WhatsApp, Google reviews and Companies House are ordinary links. Once you follow one, that site’s own cookie policy applies.

Changing your mind.

You can change your choice whenever you like, as easily as you made it.

Press Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to bring the banner back. Choose Essential only to withdraw your consent: Google’s tag goes back to no cookies, we delete the Google Analytics, Google Ads and Microsoft Clarity cookies set on our site, and the page reloads so Clarity and Metricool stop. Choose Accept all to switch them back on.

In Cookie settings you can also tick Don’t count my visits in Fathom’s cookie-free statistics. That’s how you object to the statistics we collect for everyone. It’s free, it works straight away, and it’s remembered in your browser under the name blockFathomTracking.

You can also clear this site’s data, or block or delete cookies, in your browser settings. If you block all cookies, some features of other websites, such as online booking, may not work.

Google offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every site, and you can manage the adverts Google shows you in My Ad Center. Both are linked below.
